The food was substantial and tasty, the performances were riveting and the applause was loud at the second annual Trout Lake Variety Show on Saturday night. In addition, there was the satisfaction of knowing that the $5 donation required to attend this magnificent event (a steal at the price) will be put toward a scholarship for a student in the school.

There were musical acts: a duet by James and Mary Lee Allaway; a performance by a band of high school students, Jackson Nakae, Devon VanLaar, Maggie Baker and James Baker; Lincoln Crockett, David Wampler and Linda Robertson played and sang in various groupings; the Nelson Family Band offered a song; members of the Ballard family played with Linda Roberson joining in; and Rod Nelson sang about the mathematical formula for love. There was a very amusing skit, the Cowboy Arcade, performed by Dave Wampler and Nate Johnson. Ardis DeFreece did a blindfold art picture of the Valley. We had a potato auction. The younger performers included Landen playing the piano, Mary Lou and Nia dancing and the magician Harry R. M. Pitt who successfully performed several magic tricks. The performers ranged in age from about 60 to about 7, quite a spread of talent. The show ended with a sing along of "America the Beautiful" and "This Land is Your Land." I hope that I have not forgotten to mention anyone, and if I have my apologies in advance. Quite a lot of community spirt was evident.

Thank you to the members of the Community Foundation for organizing and presenting this inspiring event.

Mention of the Community Foundation reminds me that it has asked us to request donations of zip lock bags ranging in size from gallon to sandwich for the rummage sale. If you have bags to donate please drop them off at the TLC accounting/Glacier Spring office.
