Tickets are now on sale for "The Sound of Music," the first production to come out of the newly formed Hood River Valley Playhouse. Performances will be held June 29 and 30 and July 1, 3, 6-8, and 13-15 at the historic Pine Grove Grange. The curtain will rise at 7:30 p.m. Playhouse Co-founder Katherine Arbon said that everything is coming together very well. "We have such a high caliber of talent, and the set is so beautiful - the public is going to be thrilled," she said. "The theater is so small; NeCole has been able to direct the blocking to involve the whole audience." There are several scenes, including the wedding scene, where the audience will feel they are a part of it, she said. The cast includes Amber Brennan as Maria; Andre Young as Captain Georg Von Trapp; and April Sampson, Alex Jubitz, Devin Landry, Brigham Webster, Cayenne Ellis, Emma Vance, and Lauryn Despain as the Von Trapp children. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 5-12 (children younger than 5 will not be admitted). Tickets are available at Waucoma Bookstore in Hood River and Klindt's Booksellers in The Dalles. Proceeds will benefit the Children's Orthodontic Fund of the Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Foundation and the restoration of the historic grange building. The Grange Theater is on the second floor, and is not wheelchair-accessible. The Pine Grove Grange is located on Van Horn Drive just east of Highway 35. |
