Get creative in workshop
Led by Northwest writer

Northwest writer Jane Kirkpatrick will present a writing workshop in Hood River on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church.
In this hands-on event, Kirkpatrick will share topics such as The Elements of Story Structure, Can Your Novel Pass This Test?, and Seven Stories That Hold Us Hostage and How We Can Transform Them.
Theme of the Saturday workshop is "Stitching Our Stories." Quilts have figured prominently in Kirkpatrick's last three novels, the Change and Cherish series based upon the life of Emma Geisy of the historic Aurora Colony.
The religious colony established south of Oregon City during the mid-1800s was the only utopian community to survive in the west during that period and many of the artifacts have been preserved at the museum there.
A display of vintage and modern quilts will be held in the historic Asbury sanctuary in conjunction with Kirkpatrick's visit.
The public is also invited to a free lecture and book signing at Asbury on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
For more information on events or to register for the workshop, call (541) 386-4043 or e-mail fitches@gorge.net.
   Cost is $30.
The church is located at 616 State Street in Hood River.
