Date set for Husum-BZ zoning session
County commissioners to hold public meeting

The Klickitat County Board of Commissioners will meet in White Salmon in early June to deliberate on proposed zoning changes for the Husum-BZ Corner area.
According to County Commissioner David Sauter, the commissioners will hold a public meeting on the Husum-BZ Corner comprehensive plan update on Monday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m. The session will be in the main meeting room of the Pioneer Center.
Sauter pointed out, however, that although the meeting is open to the public, commissioners will not be taking comments from the public.
"We've closed the hearing," Sauter said. "The record is closed, and we're not accepting any more testimony."
Sauter said the commissioners will meet in White Salmon to discuss and possibly decide on the zoning plan updates that were debated at a previous Pioneer Center meeting on Sept. 6, 2007. That meeting drew about 100 citizens.
Many of those in attendance in September expressed concern about a proposal to substantially increase the amount of land available for "rural residential/two-acre minimum" housing development; citing the lack of water available for additional residential development, potential traffic increases in the corridor, and impacts to the White Salmon River.
"We'll be reviewing the same plan as before," Sauter said. "We've just been percolating on it."
Sauter added that the commissioners were honoring their promise to address the Husum-BZ zoning proposal in the west end area, rather than meeting in Goldendale.
"We made a commitment to come back for our deliberation, and we're making good on that commitment," Sauter explained.
