This past Thursday evening, the monthly meeting of the High Prairie community featured a summary by Mark Thornsberry of the Port of Klicktat status. He outlined the strategic goals for both economic and recreational use. Mark described the Harbor Drive realignment, the need for renovation of the Dallesport water system which could come up to $400,000, as well as needs for further changes and improvements at the Bingen Point.

The High Prairie Fire Department has been very busy, as everyone would expect this month. They sent a strike team to the Table Mountain Fire, as well as responding to many local calls. There was a plea for fire safety as we are experiencing extreme conditions of contributing factors this year.

The High Prairie Community Center hosted a potluck dinner/dance this past Friday, with over 50 enthusiastic residents and friends from the Gorge area. After a great spread of food, the Strawberry Mountain Band provided music for listening and dancing!

Also, at the Community Center, exercise classes continue on Saturdays. Qi Gong and/or yoga with DVD begins at 10 a.m., followed by Zumba which will be led at 10:30 a.m. There is no charge, other than a suggested contribution for use of the building.

If you read "The Gorge Magazine," be sure to check out page 56 for a story on the High Prairie "Garden of Weedin." Congratulations to all who have worked faithfully all spring and summer providing huge amounts of tasty and healthy vegetables for so many residents.
