ELEANOR F. LOYEleanor Frances Loy, 94, of Vancouver, passed away Sept. 29, 2012. She was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Shawnee, Okla., the only child of Charles and Beulah Irvine.

Eleanor attended Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo., then pursued a career as a registered nurse. During World War II she was a member of the Army Nurse Corps and served in a tent hospital in Normandy, France.
After the war, Eleanor was visiting the White Salmon area with one of her Army Nurse Corps friends, when she met Tony Loy. They were married a few months later and spent 57 years together until he died in 2003. They lived in White Salmon until 1989, when they moved to Vancouver.
Eleanor continued a part-time nursing career, working at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, with the Klickitat County Health Department, and volunteering with the Blood Bank. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Judy Loy (Woody Starr), Jim Loy (Susan Millar), and Janet McCormick; four granddaughters, Heather Anderson, Adrienne Huls, Riley McCormick, and Tesla Loy; and four great-grandsons.
A family service will be held at a later date. Internment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.

RICHARD ALDRICHRichard Ray Aldrich, 54, passed away Oct. 3, 2012, near White Salmon. He was born Jan. 11, 1958, in Baker City, Ore., to Lynn Chadwick and Robert Ray Aldrich.
After high school, Richard served in the United States Navy for three years. On Aug. 31, 1994, he married Tonya Murchland in Winnemucca, Nev.
Mr. Aldrich worked as a dredger man and superintendant. He loved to hunt, fish and coach his kids sports teams.
Richard is survived by his wife Tonya Aldrich; children Casey Aldrich, M'Randa Aldrich, Ryan Aldrich and McKenna Aldrich; grandmother Leorra Chadwick; brothers Nathen Aldrich, Robert Aldrich, Jr., and Thomas Kinsella; sisters Teri Aldrich and Kathy Morrison; nieces and nephews Mariah Aldrich, Jeremy Henry and Kelsey Morrison.
He was preceded in death by sister Toni Aldrich, grandfather George Chadwick and father Robert Aldrich.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Hood River, Ore. A graveside service will take place on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Rock Creek Cemetery in Haines, Ore.

DAVID DENNIS HOWEDave Howe, 52 of White Salmon, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, in Oakland, Calif.
David was born Aug. 3, 1960, in Plattsburg, N.Y. His family moved to Mt. Upton, N.Y., in the early 60s. Dave attended Mt. Upton Central School and graduated salutatorian from Mt. Upton Central High School in 1978. Upon graduation Dave received appointment to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and graduated in 1982.
David served his country in the United States Navy, from 1982 to 1993 as an F-14 fighter pilot with VF-143 and LSO. Serving in combat during Desert Storm with CAG -1 and completed his service in the Naval Reserves flying C-9s and C-130s as a Lieutenant Commander. He started his career as an airline pilot with Southwest Airlines in 1994 and became Captain in 2000.
He moved to the beautiful Columbia Gorge in 1996 and lived in White Salmon.
He is survived by his wife Claire, his son Colin and his daughter Louise, his father Douglas Howe and brothers William and Timothy, along with many nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts.
His mother Patricia Howe passed in 2012.
A private celebration is being held in Underwood on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.
