Glenwood News for Oct. 18
October 16, 2012
Glenwood business owners have dubbed Halloween "Nightmare on Main Street" this year. The Main Street in Glenwood will be closed down from the Grange to the Mountain Inn from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Detours are available to travel around the area. Business owners are planning the special activities to provide a safe and fun place for children (young and old) to enjoy Halloween!
There will be a costume contest at the Mountain Inn at 4 p.m., and the Glenwood General Store is sponsoring its annual pumpkin-carving contest. Pumpkins need to be dropped off by 5:30 p.m. and judging will begin at 6. A new event this year is the "trunk or treat" where people can park between the store and the restaurant along Main Street and offer "treats" out of their trunks beginning around 4:45 p.m. Trunks can be decorated -- or not. In addition to prizes for the costume and pumpkin-carving contests, prizes will be awarded to the "trunk or treater" with the best decorated trunk and costume. Winners of each contest will be published in a future "Glenwood News" for bragging rights! Complimentary chowder, chili and hot cocoa will be served at the Glenwood General Store to chase away the chill.
For those "older" kids, a Halloween party is being held at the Glenwood rodeo dance hall on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 8:30 p.m. A DJ will be playing great dance music. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Admission is $3 with a costume and $5 without a costume for this 21 and older event.
