PUD reports on power outsThat occurred last weekOctober 16, 2012 On Friday, Oct. 12, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Klickitat PUD received a call that arcing was occurring on a pole in Goldendale. Upon investigation by a KPUD crew, two bad insulators were found on the transmission line that feeds the Cleveland and Goodnoe substations. In order to remove the bad insulators and correct the problem, the PUD crew had to de-energize the feed. Customers were out of power twice, back to back, for approximately one hour each starting at approximately 10:30 p.m. This outage affected approximately 650 customers that are fed out of the two substations, in and around the areas of Bickleton, Cleveland, Dot Road, Fenton Lane, Bickleton Road, Hoctor Road, and Old Mountain Road. On Sunday, Oct. 14, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the transmission feed opened up causing an outage from the Bald Mountain Substation (that is owned by Pacific Power) to the Bingen/White Salmon substation. KPUD crews responded and with the help of PP&L crews were able to restore power by switching to an alternate feed. Power was out for approximately 1.5 hours. Pacific Power crews investigated the outage further on Monday morning and discovered that jumper wire had burned through. This outage affected approximately 2800 customers in and around the areas of White Salmon, Bingen, Snowden, Pucker Huddle, and Courtney Road. On Monday, Oct. 15, at approximately 3:45 a.m., KPUD received a call that the Warner Road in Trout Lake was out of power. KPUD crews discovered two bad insulators on a power pole and were able to replace them. Power was out for approximately four hours. This outage affected approximately 65 customers on Warner Road.
