October 23, 2012
If you enjoy a good read, discussion, and meeting others in the community, the White Salmon Valley Community Library invites you to take part in the library's Fall 2012 monthly book discussion series.
Upcoming discussions are scheduled for the first Thursday of the month in November and December. Copies of the November title, The Help: A Novel by Kathryn Stockett, are now available for participants to pick up at the library's front desk.
The book will be discussed on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m. in the library's Sprint/Baker Gallery.
The Help: A Novel takes place in 1962 Jackson, Miss., and tells of the unlikely alliance between Aibileen, a black maid and Skeeter, a white socialite, to "write, in secret, and at terrible risk, a tell-all book about what it's really like to work as a black maid in the white homes of the South [their] intention: hope for a better day." (Penguin 2009).
The book discussion series will continue through December. The final title in the series and the discussion date will be: Mink River by Brian Doyle on Dec. 6.
