Driver program coming to Pioneer Center; free for veterans

Reduce your insurance rates

October 30, 2012

An AARP Driver Safety program taught by Jim Bull is scheduled for Nov. 13 to 14 at the Pioneer Center in White Salmon.

This eight-hour class for adults 50-plus years of age is completed in two sessions. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

As it did last November, AARP Driver Safety is saluting the military by offering free classroom courses to all U.S. military service members and their dependents. All U.S. military personnel -- active duty, retired, guard or reserve AND their dependents (spouses/domestic partners, widows/widowers, and children), regardless of age, are eligible to receive this promotion. Veterans include those individuals who have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard/Reserves, or Coast Guard.

Individuals must participate on both days. Participants will work through an interesting, interactive curriculum emphasizing defensive driving techniques. Actual driving is not involved.

Washington State has authorized auto insurance discounts for those who complete this course. Check with your insurance carrier for more information.

To register for the AARP Driver Safety Class call Jill Parrott, Klickitat County Senior Services, at 493-3068.

Persons do not need to be an AARP member to enroll. For non veterans, a fee is charged to cover the cost of materials: $12 for AARP Members and $14 for non-members.
