A simple gift for childrenDonate for shoeboxesNovember 06, 2012 What starts out as a simple gift -- a decorated shoebox packed with items such as needed school supplies, grooming necessities and colorful toys -- is used to transform the hearts and souls of millions of children and their families in more than 100 countries. This opportunity to share God's love is available to individuals, groups and churches here in the Gorge through Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse. Collection week in the Gorge is Nov. 12-18. The drop off location in White Salmon is New Beginnings Church, E. Jewett and Oak streets. Each gift is delivered with a Gospel booklet in the local language to bring "good news of great joy" into the lives of children living in harsh circumstances. Often, these life-changing gifts are the only ones children ever receive during their young lives. Many churches and groups have received notes of thanks and appreciation from a child (written with the help of an aid worker or pastor) who was thrilled to open a simple shoebox and find gifts they could only dream about. Call the New Beginnings Church at 493-1909 or 493-1678 for drop-off times and additional information. |
