Library to celebrate Holiday Wassail
With entertainment and crafts
November 20, 2012
The Friends of the White Salmon Valley Community Library cordially invite the community to attend the 38th Annual Holiday Wassail Open House on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the library.
The event, held in recent years in conjunction with the downtown "I'm Dreaming of a White Salmon" holiday celebration, has been a community tradition since 1974.
Join us any time throughout the afternoon for a variety of musical performances by area musicians, artisan demonstrations, activities for children, Holiday Sing-Alongs, and gallery exhibit.
Children of all ages are invited to enjoy hands-on craft activities, and join the ever-popular "Sophie" the otter for a seasonal Sing-Along.
Artisan demonstrations will include: spinning with Carolyn Simon; beading with Pam Morneault; and wood carving with Wayne Stone.
The Friends of the Library will be offering a delicious array of sweet and savory refreshments along with their traditional hot Wassail punch to help launch your holiday season.
The musical lineup for this year's Wassail is scheduled as follows:
2 p.m. -- Bob Schwarz on piano
2:30 p.m. -- Asbury Bell Ringers
3 p.m. -- Columbia High School Combo
4 p.m. -- Kids' Holiday Sing-Along with Steve Jones on guitar and harmonica
4:30 p.m. -- Family Sing-Along with Bob Schwarz on piano
The Wassail gallery exhibit will feature Holiday Quilts designed and created by members of the Columbia River Quilters' Guild.
Meet the quilters and view their works. Children are invited to join members of the Quilters' Guild throughout the afternoon for a hands-on quilting activity in the gallery.
The quilt exhibit will continue throughout the month of December and will be available for viewing during regular library hours.
Top off the day's festivities with the community tree-lighting downtown shortly after 5 p.m.
