Arts Council gives grant to high school

For music program

December 11, 2012

The White Salmon Arts Council has given a grant of $200 from its Scholarship Fund to the "Music Matters Club" from Columbia High School.

The club performed at the 2012 "I'm Dreaming of a White Salmon" tree lighting event in downtown White Salmon on Dec. 2.

The White Salmon Arts Council started the event in 2005 and in recent years has coordinated it with Santa's Breakfast and the Community Library Holiday Wassail.

According to Chandra Rampersad, the Columbia High School music director, "The funds will be used to purchase improvisational music called "Fake Books" and "Aebersold Books".

She added, "The growth opportunity here is not only in improving student musicianship and improvisation skills, but students in this club will finally be able to host local jam sessions around town. This is really a community growth project the kids are putting together so that adults, high schoolers, and younger children can all come together and make music! Music Matters Club is all about keeping the music alive and strengthening our community through the power of music."
