Early on the morning of Feb. 18, 2013, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies received information about a 1997 Mazda B2300 pickup truck that was possibly heading westbound on I-84 towards Portland after being stolen in Hood River.

The Hood River Police Department provided a detailed description of the vehicle and a possible suspect name. An MCSO patrol sergeant parked his vehicle along I-84, just east of the City of Troutdale and soon located the vehicle at about 12:45 a.m.

MCSO Sergeant Bryan White followed the stolen vehicle as it took exit 18 off of I-84 and headed towards Lewis & Clark State Park. Within a few minutes, two Troutdale police officers joined Sergeant White and a traffic stop was initiated on East Columbia River Highway, just west of the Troutdale Bridge. The vehicle accelerated quickly and was soon traveling at a speed that was unsafe for the conditions. The pursuit was terminated near downtown Troutdale, but the vehicle was soon spotted again by officers near the Troutdale Airport. Troutdale officers observed the vehicle drive into a business parking lot on NW Graham Circle. The stolen vehicle then drove through a cyclone fence and onto a field behind the business. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound back onto NW Graham Road on the north side of the Troutdale Airport and eventually crashed into a concrete jersey barrier at the intersection of NW Graham Road and NE Harlow Place. The driver, who was identified as Roy Binion, 44, fled the vehicle on foot and was quickly apprehended by MCSO deputies and TPD officers.

Shortly after Binion was taken into custody, the Portland Police Bureau notified MCSO that Binion was wanted for questioning related to a bank robbery that occurred in Portland. Binion was booked at the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges stemming from the MCSO investigation: unauthorized use of a vehicle, attempt to elude (felony), attempt to elude (misdemeanor), reckless driving, criminal mischief in the first degree, and criminal mischief in the second degree.

A North Dakota man is facing charges in Wasco County after his arrest when an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper discovered he was in possession of approximately six pounds of marijuana in his vehicle when stopped for a traffic violation along Highway 197 north of Interstate 84 in The Dalles.

The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation.

On Feb. 6, 2013, at approximately 11:35 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 1994 Honda Civic displaying North Dakota license plates for a lane change violation observed eastbound along Interstate 84 near milepost 87. The car's driver was identified as Thane Eric Johnson, 24, from Minot, N.D.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to discover a total of approximately six pounds of marijuana in 16 separate sealed bags in the car's trunk. A Sherman County Sheriff's Office drug detection canine assisted during the stop and seizure. Estimated value of the seized marijuana is $15,000.

Johnson was lodged in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility for unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance -- marijuana. He was released from their custody on a later date.
