Friends of Library to host book saleMarch 15-16March 05, 2013 Attention book lovers! The Friends of the White Salmon Valley Community Library will host its Annual Used Book and Multi-media Sale on Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16, in the library's Sprint/Baker Gallery. Prices for various formats will be as follows: hardbound books -- $1; trade paperback books -- 75 cents; mass paperback books and music cassettes -- 50 cents; and DVD, VHS and CDs -- $1. On Thursday, March 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. there will be a "Special Pre-Sale" for members of the Friends of the Library (memberships will be available for purchase at the door). Again this year there will be no scanners allowed at the Thursday evening "Members Only Pre-Sale" event. Scanners are hand-held devices sometimes used by book sellers to determine the current selling price of particular books. The Friends have decided not to allow scanners at the Members Only Pre-Sale to level the playing field, and allow all members to participate in the pre-sale on an equal footing. The sale will be open to the general public Friday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to Noon (with a short closure from 120 to 12:30) followed by a Bag Sale from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Each bag filled with books will be $1 during the Bag Sale! If you can't make the Friends of the library's March Book Sale, remember to check out the Friends' year-round Book Store located in the library, where you can buy wonderful books throughout the year while supporting the Friends and the library. The Friends' Book Store is open during all regular library hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for Monday hours coming up later this spring! Donations for the book and multi-media sale are welcome. Proceeds from the book sale and the Friends' Book Store are used to support special projects for the White Salmon Valley Community Library. Proceeds from past sales have been used to host programs such as living history, musical performances, book discussion series, new materials for the library and to provide and maintain the beautiful landscaping on the South side of the library building. Proceeds from the sale of all multi-media items will be used to support the local Teen Summer Reading program, and to enhance other library programs and resources for teens at the White Salmon library. For further information call the library, 493-1132. |
