Got talent, share it in school gymGlenwood News for March 14March 12, 2013 By the GLENWOOD HOMEMAKERS Wow! Glenwood was a happening place this past weekend! On Friday night, March 8, the Missoula Children's Theatre produced "The Pied Piper" by enlisting budding actors from Glenwood kindergarten through eighth grades. The play followed a delicious spaghetti dinner; and topped off a nice evening at the school. Several birthdays were observed on Friday night as well. Blaine Arnold and Kaedance Loomis enjoyed their third birthday party; while Brent and Brad Gimlin also celebrated their birthdays. Happy birthday to each of you who turned another year older! Vicky (Miller) Jones was given a baby shower on March 10 to help prepare for the birth of her daughter Penelope Rose Jones. The shower helped stock the baby's nursery -- and gave the attendees a good opportunity to visit with neighbors and out-of-towners. Soon-to-be parents Vicky and Brian are expecting the arrival of Penelope later in April. We will look forward to hearing the happy news and to meeting Little Miss Jones! "Imagine!" That is the title of the Women of Faith DVD Conference that will be held at the Glenwood Pioneer Memorial Community Church on March 15 and 16. Featured speakers include Lisa Harper, Luci Swindoll and Sheila Walsh. The event begins Friday from 5:45 to 9:30 p.m. and continues on Saturday from 8:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Dinner, a continental breakfast and brunch will be provided during the conference. The event is free -- but donations will be accepted. If you would like to attend this inspirational event, please call 364-3571 to make your reservation ASAP so adequate food can be arranged! I can almost smell and taste the delicious traditional turkey dinner that the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department will prepare this Saturday! They will serve their homemade dinner with all the trimmings from 4:30 through 7:30 p.m. at the school. Tickets are available in advance from a local volunteer fireman or at the door for only $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. This is a wonderful way to support our local volunteer firemen and women. Proceeds from the dinner will enable the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department to purchase additional equipment. The volunteers work hard to provide fire and emergency medical services for our community -- let's be sure to support them by attending their annual fundraising event! The Glenwood's Got Talent show is seeking participants for the show on March 20. The show provides the opportunity for locals (young and old alike) to share their particular talent with the community. The show is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Glenwood School gym; and there is no charge to attend this annual event. People wishing to participate must attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Tuesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. For questions regarding The Glenwood's Got Talent show -- please contact the school at 364-3438. Many Glenwood students are involved in spring sports this year. Middle school track and field competitors are being coached by Julie Brazil. Tom Eldred is coaching Glenwood athletes on the TLG high school team. Glenwood's team members include Baylee Couch, Greg Dechand, Becca Hallenbeck, Kenny Henderson, Dalton Jones and Bethany Putnam. Jaylin and Jonathon Throop are playing on the Columbia High School baseball team in White Salmon. I hope to be able to report results of the track meets and baseball games throughout the spring! The Glenwood Community Council will host its monthly meeting next Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Glenwood Grange. A representative from Life Flight will share information with the community on the medical transport services they offer. This has been a hot topic in recent months, so please come out and learn more! Life Flight's presentation will be followed by an open forum on the Mt. Adams Community Forest Project. Mt. Adams Resource Stewards will provide an update on current community forest projects and seek input from the community on management direction for the Mill Pond property. Coming Events: March 14: High school track meet in Yakima at 3:30 p.m. March 16: High school track meet in The Dalles March 19: High school track meet in Grandview at 2:45 p.m. |
