Check your own news, share with othersLyle News for March 14March 12, 2013 By the Long gone are the "Town Criers" that would walk the streets and shout out the news. It never ceases to frustrate me when I hear over and over that "I didn't know that was going to happen" or "I would have been there." Or "How come no one ever let me know that was happening?" I'm not sure what a person expects if they don't read the paper, sign up for the "What's Happening in Lyle" email, check the post office bulletin board or read the flyers around town. Come on folks; be responsible for checking your own news. And for goodness sake if you have any, let me know so I can share it with others.Lyle Newscasters Mildred Lykens, 365-0060 lykensme@embarqmail.com http://lyle-wa.blogspot.com/ Lyle Community Council's speaker this month was Renee Tkach, Gorge Towns to Trails project manager. She gave an oral presentation along with a map of the potential trail that designates the organization's future plan of the Cherry Orchard Trail. It eliminates the existing dangerous climb from SR14, and implements a safer one that would be constructed on more level ground starting from a 6 parking space area west of the school's football field. They have a long way to go waiting on donations and grants for funding. A sneak preview awaits those attending the March 19 Lion's Club Senior lunch. The Dallesport Elementary students will be performing a few of their songs from their upcoming musical rendition of "The Little Mermaid Jr." Good food and great entertainment can soothe the soul. The play in its entirety will be presented on March 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. in their school gym. The Lions Club would also like to thank the community for the great turn out and support at the Saturday Breakfast of March 2. Everyone seemed to enjoy the addition of biscuits and gravy. Eleven Lady Sundowners crowded around a table at the Momma Jane's cafe in The Dalles. The relaxed atmosphere and family news sharing found them staying a bit past closing time. A planning meeting for the Lyle Community Market is set for Saturday, March 16, 11 a.m. The public, vendors, gardeners, and speakers are welcome. This market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning on June 1 and follow every Saturday until Sept. 21. The meeting place is the "Blue Bldg" across from Lion's Club on Hwy 14. Questions?
