More Diesel Generators Coming To County?

Effective April 19, the county planning department has issued MDNS for four separate proposals to site portable, temporary diesel-powered generators.

The diesel generator revolution is continuing in Klickitat County. Effective April 19, the Klickitat County Planning Department has issued "mitigated determinations of non-significance" (MDNS) for four separate proposals to site multiple portable, temporary power generators that operate on diesel fuel.

Proposals include:

Bingen: Versatile Supply Inc. has requested a special use application for placement and operation of three portable and temporary power generators. The site is located at State Route 14 milepost 68.6.

Glenwood: Howard Kreps has requested a special use application for placement and operation of four portable and temporary power generators. The site is located at the Glenwood Substation.

Roosevelt: Northwest Regional Power has requested a special use application for placement and operation of 10 portable and temporary power generators. The site is within the Roosevelt Regional Landfill.

John Day Dam: Northwest Regional Power has requested a special use application for placement and operation of 20 portable and temporary power generators. The site is in the vicinity of the John Day Dam.

The MDNS for all four proposals means that the Klickitat County Responsible Official (Curt Dreyer, head of the Klickitat County Planning Department) has determined that these generators "will not have probable significant adverse impacts on the environment."

Comments and/or appeals on the proposals will be accepted by the Klickitat County Planning Department, 228 West Main, MS: CH-17, Goldendale, Wash., 98620, until 5 p.m. on May 3.

In a related case, the Klickitat County Board of Commissioners will hear an appeal of a diesel-generation proposal for a site near BZ Corner. Rick Graves & Associates plan to operate four diesel-powered mobile generators on a site adjacent to the Gilmer Substation. The hearing, open to the public, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., April 23 at the Klickitat County Courthouse in Goldendale.
