Museum to host holiday sleepover for children

The Discovery Center and Museum will host its holiday overnight camp on Dec. 27 and 28.

The Discovery Center and Museum will host its holiday overnight indoor camp for children grades 4 through 6 during Christmas week, December 27 and 28.

This educational camp is presented in partnership with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service.

This "Winter Camp at Crate's Point" will be a kids' overnighter with Oregon Trail overtones. Activities will include songs, games, a short night hike with a surprise or two, and atmospheric storytelling.

Camp begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, and children should bring a sleeping bag, change of clothing, mattress pad, pajamas, heavy coat and hat for outdoor hiking, and toothbrush.

Parents can pick up their child on Friday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. where they will be treated to "Time Travel Theater," starring some familiar faces.

"Our summertime Discovery Day Camp has been such a hit with kids and families that we decided to host these winter and spring camp-ins," said Steve Rice, school programs coordinator at the center. "A little education, a lot of fun . . .call me for a registration form while there is still room!"

Fee for this overnighter is $15 and includes snacks and a light breakfast.

Enrollment is limited, and registration is required. Registration is available at the Discovery Center and Museum or by calling (541) 296-8600, ext. 230.
