Jonah Ministries, Trout Lake, is beginning the new year with a Prayer Seminar on Friday, Jan. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m. The seminar continues on Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. To 12 p.m. with lunch included. The community is invited to this 5th annual event, 'A Challenge To A Life of Prayer.' Reservations are appreciated. The speaker is Pastor Dee Duke of the Jefferson Baptist Church. The seminar is free but if anyone wishes overnight lodging the cost is $10 for bunk-style housing. If wishing to stay overnight, call ahead to reserve a space at 395-2900. This life-changing event is recommended and sponsored by Jonah Ministries. The only cost is your time and prayer support

In spite of our country's vulnerability, this has been a good year. All because of people in our community sharing their delightful diversity of talents. The many community activities, like the coffee at the Trout Lake Inn, and the wonderful holiday programs including the Christmas play performed by the Mount Adams Players. Our family thoroughly enjoyed this fine comedy. Those of us who attended the reception after the play were treated with goodies provided by the Mt. Adams Baptist Church and the Trout Lake Presbyterian Church.

As we enter a New Year of 2002 there is a variety of groups gathering for fellowship to learn a new skill, plan community service, or just have fun. Some of these are:

The Trout Lake Quilters greet Mondays as they gather to quilt and chat at the Trout Lake Grange. Newcomers are always welcome. They usually set up around 9:30 a.m. and bring a sack lunch so they can fellowship until about 3:30 p.m. Come and admire the beautiful quilts.

The lending library at Jonah Ministries has children's books and videos, as well as adult novels, videos, and some more serious reading. Those of our Trout Lake community are invited to come and browse. Newcomers, come in and visit and see what we have. For kids such titles as the Yucky Reptile book, titles by Max Lucado such as 'I Am Special.' Stop by and check out the library, you will be glad that you did.

You're invited to the community adult pinochle fun night at Jonah Ministries -- Sunday, Jan. 6, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Anyone who plays pinochle or who would like to learn (some lessons will be provided), are welcome to come. Be you a tolerant expert or an enthusiastic beginner. Please bring your own deck of pinochle cards. Babysitting is not available. If any questions call Glenn or Nancy Lucas at 395- 2958. The game being played is Single Deck Partnership Pinochle. Bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage. Popcorn will be provided. If this is popular, it will happen again and again. So come and enjoy!

Coming up Jan. 26 is the Cabin Fever Winter Festival sponsored by the Century 21 grant. Another opportunity to enjoy this beautiful winter wonderland. Watch for news on this exciting event.

Happy New Year, Sandi Thygesen
