On Oct. 26, 2001, at approximately 11 p.m., the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office received a call about a hunter failing to return to camp after dark. The hunter was missing in the Laurel Road area, just east of Trout Lake.
Klickitat County Search and Rescue was activated and with the assistance of U.S. Fish and Wildlife officer Harold Cole, the missing hunter was returned to his camp within hours of the calls.
This is the second call that search and rescue has had during the 2001 hunting season, both ending with successful finds and no injuries.
"I think the search and rescue team has been doing a great job. They are coming out when the call comes in and working hard. They are working good as a team," said Mike Kallio, SAR coordinator for the Klickitat County Sheriff's Department.
Three people were injured in a two-vehicle, head-on accident on State Route 97 near milepost 33 on Nov. 4, 2001, at approximately 6:09 p.m.
