A 38-16 victory at La Center Nov. 20 pushed the Henkle Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team's record to 3-0.
Chasity Keller and Chani Weiler each scored 12 points to share team honors. Chelsea Ludwig put in 10 and Michele Shrum added four.
According to Grizzlies Coach Michael Hannigan, Keller (who scored 18 points in the season opener) had an "exceptional game on the low post" due to the passing of Weiler and Ludwig.
Leading rebounders for the Grizzlies included Keller, Shrum and Kara Woosley, whose tenacious defense forced several La Center turnovers.
The Grizzlies took control of the game in the first quarter, posting a 14-2 lead after the opening six minutes of play.
They kept up the pressure at both ends in the second quarter, outplaying the home team 10-0 to lead 24-2 at halftime.
The third quarter was the closest of the four, with Henkle outscoring La Center 10-8 for a 34-10 advantage en route to its third victory in three starts.
Henkle's first and second wins came at Wind River (Carson) on Nov. 8 and at home Nov. 13 against Canyon Creek (Washougal).
"This group of girls is extraordinarily athletic," Hannigan noted. He added: "The teamwork and positive attitude make each game a winning experience."
