On Sept. 11, at 2:57 a.m., deputies from the Sheriff's Office and the Rural Seven Fire Department, Rescue Seven and Klickitat Valley Ambulance responded to a complaint of an explosion that came from the Knight Road area.
The site was actually on Fairgrounds Road, near Knight Road. Found was a junked vehicle on fire. This vehicle had been abandoned for some time and was laying on its top prior to the fire and explosion.
After the fire department put out the fire, investigators located a small battery and some wire that were left near the roadway.
A call of a possible fire in this same area had been made prior to the explosion. At this time it is unclear if the explosion was associated with the fire or was a separate incident.
No injuries or other property damage was reported.
The investigation is continuing.
Federal Agents with expertise in this area were called and notified of the incident. Representatives of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms will be working with the Klickitat County Sheriff's Detectives to assess the vehicle and scene to help determine the cause of the fire and explosion.
There is no evidence to suggest that this event is in any way associated with those events happening in New York, Washington D.C or Pennsylvania, said Sheriff Chris Mace.
