Annual golf tournament nets $1300 for CHS athletics fund

Organizers attribute handsome sum to generous donations, strong participation

The Columbia High School athletics fund will be $1,300 richer this year, thanks to the participants of the 32nd annual Mt. Adams Elks/Francis E. Logan Memorial Golf Tournament.

"Normally we net between $1000 and $1100," said tournament spokesman Terry Anderson. "We were able to raise more this year due to generous donations of door prizes and items for the auction."

In addition, this year's tournament field featured more than 60 mixed couples knocking balls around Husum Hills Golf Course.

The winners were Derek Yeager and Donna Mollett. They combined to card the lowest gross of the field.

In the net divisions, the team of Don Larsen and Marge Ryan tied with husband-wife duo Steve and Kim Larsen for first place in the A Flight.

The winning pair of Bud Wall and Catherine Garrett topped the B Flight. Frank Backus and Angie Chisholm finished first in the Calloway Flight.
