Lyle rebounds from loss to Klickitat by sweeping Glenwood-Trout Lake

Pitchers Mitzi McMurrin and Tonya Schroeder combined for 20 strikeouts and allowed just seven hits and five runs as Lyle swept a Greater Columbia B League softball double-header from Glenwood-Trout Lake last Saturday.

McMurrin struck out nine and yielded two hits in the Cougars' 13-1 victory in game one.

Jennifer Struck (3 for 3, triple) and Tara Rappe (3 for 5, triple) each drove in four runs to highlight Lyle's 10-hit attack.

In game two, Schroeder fanned 11 and went 2 for 2 (double, triple) with two runs batted in as Lyle prevailed 19-4.

Struck, Kristin Brown, Heather Bremer and Sandra Loring all had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars, who finished with 14 hits.

Jenna Dean hit a home run to account for one of Glenwood's five hits.

At Klickitat 8, Lyle 7 --

The Vandals scored three runs on wild pitches in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Cougars and win their April 9 GCB opener.

Junior Jaecee Ramsay got the win for the Vandals. She improved to 3-0, scattering four hits and striking out 12.

Klickitat tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Lyle pushed three runs across in the top of the fifth for a 6-3 lead.

In the sixth, Klickitat scored twice, including Jordan Graeme's solo home run, to trim the margin to 6-5.

Junior Tonya Schroder took the loss for the Cougars (0-1, 2-3), in relief of sophomore Mitzi McMurrin.

At Sunnyside Christian 23, Glenwood-Trout Lake 22 --

The Knights scored the winning run on a basehit in the bottom of the seventh inning of the April 9 league opener for both teams.

G-TL, which out-hit SC 16-14, rallied for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 22-20 lead. SC tied it up with two runs in the home half.

Senior Jenna Dean paced G-TL at the plate, going 3 for 5 with five runs batted in.
