Pack 384 of the Cub Scouts of White Salmon are kicking off a fundraising campaign to raise money to purchase a new "pinewood derby" racing track and timing system.
The current track is nearly 20 years old and deteriorating.
Donations for the new four-lane track and a digital timing system to accompany it are being sought from individuals and businesses in the community. The Cub Scouts are planning to have the new track available for next year's race, which is expected to be in late January.
"The boys put a lot of effort into this, and they deserve a good system," said Larry Rickey, den leader for Pack 384.
The estimated price tag of the new system is approximately $1,200.
Donations can be sent to: New Track Fund, P.O. Box 1515, White Salmon, Wash., 98672.
