Volunteer To Help With Trail Maintenance

Volcanic monument to work on trail upkeep

Are you interested in helping with trail maintenance on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest?

Once again, the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument is providing volunteers an opportunity to help with upkeep of its trails system.

Volunteer trail maintenance opportunities will be the weekends of July 19-21 and July 27-28.

The Single Track Minds Mountain Bike Club is sponsoring a trail maintenance work party July 19 thru the 21 on the Ape Canyon Trail.

Participants can camp out at the Marble Mountain Sno-Park on the south side of Mount St. Helens and spend the weekend.

For additional information about this event, contact Mike Curley with the Mountain Bike Club at (253) 370-2360 or e-mail at itsadjustable@attbi.com .

Washington Trails Association (WTA) is sponsoring a volunteer trail cleanup weekend at Quartz Creek Trail on July 27 and 28.

Anyone interested in helping maintain this forest trail system is welcome to join WTA for one or more of the days.

Contact Washington Trails Association at (206) 625-1367, or sign up on the WTA web site at www.wta.org/ and let them know you will be joining them so they have enough tools for everyone. Those helping with this event may camp at the Lewis River Horse Camp.

Please bring boots and gloves, a lunch, and dress for the weather. Camping sites are available if you want to spend the weekend. Volunteer Northwest Forest Passes will be supplied for parking at the trailhead.

You may also contact Tom Hauss with the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument for additional information at (360) 449-7847 or thauss@fs.fed.us or visit the Gifford Pinchot National Forest website.
