June unemployment update

Klickitat County jobless rate continues to be worst in state

The latest report on the unemployment front continues to show little positive news for Klickitat County, where the unemployment rate remains the poorest in the state.

In addition, at a time when the statewide unemployment rate is improving, the rate for Klickitat County has worsened over the past month.

Preliminary figures for June show Klickitat County with a 13.6 percent unemployment rate. In May, the rate was 13.4 percent.

Only Cowlitz County, with a 10.1 percent unemployment rate in June, comes close to Klickitat County's unemployment figure.

Neighboring Skamania County registered 9.8 percent unemployment in June.

Across the Columbia River, Oregon's Hood River County reported 10.9 percent unemployment in June.

The statewide numbers showed Washington at 6.8 percent unemployment for June, a slight improvement from May's 6.9 percent.

The national unemployment rate in June was 6.0 percent.
