Library offers summer reading for kids, teens

Kids and teens invited to Sail Into Reading

Kids and teens are invited to Sail Into Reading at the White Salmon Valley Community Library this summer.

Float on down to the library and take part in another fun filled summer of reading and exciting activities. The library is offering two reading incentive programs this year -- one for children through age 11, and a Teen program for ages 12 through 18. Come in, sign up and get your summer reading packets today -- keep reading from now through the end of August!

In addition to the reading programs, the library will be offering weekly programs starting on Friday, June 21 through the first week in August.

All programs will be held in the library's Sprint/Baker Gallery at 2 p.m., unless otherwise noted.

Friday, June 21 -- Sailing, Sailing Over the Columbia Blue! Let your imagination soar and help create an awesome torn-paper mural Gorge sailing scene.

Thursday, June 27 -- Pigstasia, Bob and Konnie Precious and their Kune-Kune pet pigs from New Zealand will visit. These pigs dance, and perform amazing feats (including playing basketball)!

Wednesday, July 3 -- Stan Greer will share Magic, Mirth & Mystery with lots of audience participation.

Thursday, July 11 -- Join others at the Bingen City Park Gazebo for The Art of Mime with Creative Works Theatre Company where you will learn the basics of mime from make-up to performance. The bookmobile will be at the park too, so bring you library card!

Wednesday, July 17 -- A Musical Multi-cultural Storytelling Extravaganza with Dr. Jay Harris will energize your day with stories from around the world accompanied by a wild variety of percussion instruments.

Thursday, July 25 -- Once again Stephen Lattanzi's Creature Feature will be performing. This program was so popular last year that this year there will be two performances - one at 11 a.m. and one at 2 p.m. Please choose one performance only to attend.

Friday, August 2 -- The Yarn Spinners will join library staff for the grand finale Summer Reading program.
