Thursday marks beginning of season for museum

The Gorge Heritage Museum will open for the season on Thursday, May 23.

The museum, which houses the collection of the West Klickitat County Historical Society, was formerly the Bingen Congregational Church which was dedicated 90 years ago in 1912.

The collection celebrates the legacy of the native peoples and immigrants who settled and traded in our mountainous river valleys and along the Columbia River.

Exhibits include a display of antique logging equipment, photographs of the native peoples and immigrants who settled in the area, a display showing the construction of Condit Dam on the White Salmon River and an Old Country Store.

The Gorge Heritage Museum is located at 202 E. Humboldt in Bingen and is open to the public until the last week end in September. The hours are 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
