One Down, Two To Go

Henkle wrestlers, girl b-ballers ready for winter sports seasons

One season down, two to go.

Just two weeks after the end of the fall season, Henkle Middle School has begun its winter sports program, which features wrestling, and boys and girls basketball.

Grizzlies wrestlers open the season on Thursday at Castle Rock. They will be taking part in a jamboree that gets underway at 4 p.m.

Henkle follows that up next week with its only home matches of the season: Tuesday, Nov. 12, with La Center and Cascade (Longview), and Thursday, Nov. 14, with Wind River and Jemtegaard (Washougal).

Both matches will be held in Columbia High's Miller Memorial Gym. Start time for both is 4 p.m.

Rick Freil returns as coach.

Henkle's seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball teams will see their first action on Nov. 12.

The 7/8 blended teams, under returning coach Dennis Jablonski, will host Hockinson. Tipoff is at 3:30 p.m.

Michael Hannigan's all-seventh team and Mike Yarnell's all-eighth team travel to Washougal for their season openers.

The Grizzlies will be taking on Canyon Creek. The first game of the hoops double-header starts at 3:30 p.m.
