Henry Walter Hilkey, 76, died on Oct. 3, 2002, in Hood River, Ore.
Mr. Hilkey was born on May 18, 1926, in Doris, Calif., to Florence (Whipple) and Howard Hilkey. He grew up in Hood River and White Salmon and later joined the United States Army, serving in World War II.
On Sept. 21, 1946, he married Sallie Skinner in Wilmington, N.C. The couple moved back to White Salmon in 1947 and Mr. Hilkey worked for Rees Stevenson. In 1971, they relocated to Alabama and he worked in a sawmill until he retired in 1982.
In 1988, the couple moved back to White Salmon where they have lived since.
Mr. Hilkey attended the Baptist church and loved to hunt and fish.
Mr. Hilkey is survived by his wife, Sallie; daughter Sallie Ann Bird, Salt Lake City, Utah; brother Robert Hilkey, Boise, Idaho; sisters Lillian, Redmond, Ore., and Dorothy Glover, Hood River, Ore.
A graveside service for Mr. Hilkey was held on Monday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. at the White Salmon Cemetery with Rev. Jan. Schiering officiating.
