Property taxes increase statewide; take huge jump in Klickitat County

Klickitat taxes go up 9.4 percent

The state Department of Revenue just reported property taxes increased an average of 2.1 percent statewide between 2001 and 2002, equal to $54.60 on a $200,000 home.

Klickitat County showed the second highest property tax increase, right behind Kitsap County, of 9.4 percent, equal to $220.76 on a $200,000 home.

In Skamania County the rate of increase was only 1.2 percent, or $24.88 on a $200,000 home.

The state Department of Revenue's report, Property Tax Statistics -- 2002, showed that property tax levies statewide grew by 4.7 percent in 2002.

According to the state, some counties experienced sharp increases or decreases in taxes, generally due to the passage or failure of voter-approved levies and bonds from year to year.
