Junior Bruins defuse Firecrackers, halt losing streak

A three-set victory over Castle Rock last Thursday put Columbia High's junior varsity volleyball team back into the win column.

The Junior Bruins improved to 4-6 in winning the last two sets 25-22, 15-13 after losing the first, 25-17.

As a team, they served up eight aces. Sophomore Corrine Blankenship had three of aces while serving 12 of 13.

Freshman Dani Gilderhus served perfectly and netted two aces.

At the net, Blankenship tallied five kills, while classmate Whitney Shelley totaled two.

Ridgefield JV 3, at Columbia JV 0 --

The Junior Bruins lost the Oct. 15 home match, 25-21, 25-14, 15-4.

Highlights included sophomore Anna Zuck's three digs and classmate Corrine Blankenship's three serving aces and two digs.
