On display through Sept. 28 at The Dalles Art Center are the recent paintings by Janice Staver and sculptures by Jeff Stewart.
Staver, a well-known artist from The Dalles, will be presenting paintings in a variety of media including oil, acrylics, watercolor, pastels and mixed media.
Staver, who received a bachelor's degree in art from Marylhurst College, is an award winning artist. Past awards have included a purchase award from the annual statewide "Art about Agriculture" juried exhibit, a first place in the Hail Mid Columbia show at Columbia Art Gallery, second place in Fort Dalles Western Art Show, and awards in the Watercolor Society of Oregon.
Stewart, a longtime art instructor at Columbia Gorge Community College, was born and raised in Wasco County. While growing up he developed a lasting interest in the history and heritage of his surroundings. His early memories of Celilo Falls and the river provide the inspiration for this series of bronze and kiln formed glass sculptures being shown. Several of the pieces are portraits of local people, some of which go back to the 1840s.
