Library invites public to April 12 event

The White Salmon Valley Community library invites the public to help celebrate National Library Week and honor recent bookmark contest participants on Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m.

This year 200 local area students grades k-8 entered original bookmark designs in the library district's biennial bookmark contest. Throughout the Fort Vancouver Regional Library (Klickitat, Skamania, Clark Counties and part of Cowlitz County) 6,003 entries were submitted.

Local finalists for the White Salmon Valley branch are: kindergarten, Jacqulyn Harris, Klickitat Elementary; first grade, Silver Poole, homeschool; second grade, Shannon Lackey, homeschool; fourth grade, Cameron Lackey, homeschool; fifth grade, Dyamond Poole, homeschool; sixth grade, Cindy Villa, Henkle Middle School; eighth grade, Kyle Hadley, Henkle Middle School.

Two White Salmon area finalist have been awarded grand prize for their grade level throughout the library district: Whitson Elementary School third grader, Paige Stevenson; and Henkle Middle School seventh grader, Fanny Domijan.

All entries will be on display at the library during National Library Week (April 6-12).

The celebration will honor all participants. Finalists and grand prize winners will receive their original entries framed. Grand prize winner designs will be printed for distribution throughout the library district for the next two years until the next scheduled bookmark contest.
