Cougars sweep Vikings

Junior Kristin Brown belts four hits and drives in five runs in Lyle victories

Kristin Brown had four hits and five runs batted in April 8 as Lyle scored a pair of mercy-rule victories over Mabton, 16-4 and 18-5, and improved its first-place record to 4-0 in Greater Columbia B League standings.

Brown was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in game one and 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs in game two as Lyle (6-1 overall) out-hit Mabton, 15-12, in the double-header.

In game one, sophomore right-hander Mitzi McMurrin got the win, holding the Vikings to three hits while striking out six and walking one.

McMurrin also had two hits and two RBIs. Tara Rappe contributed two hits and three RBIs. Jennifer Struck added three RBIs.

Tonya Schroeder was the winning pitcher in game two. The senior righthander allowed nine hits but didn't give up a run until the bottom of the fifth inning. She finished with three strikeouts and didn't walk anybody.

Schroeder also had three RBIs as a key part of the Cougars' offensive attack, which produced eight hits (all singles) and eight runs batted in.

Brown and Rappe each had two hits and two RBIs. McMurrin tallied two hits and one RBI.
