Festival expands to 10 days, adds events

GorgeFest will expand to 10 days in 2004, with kick-off festivities scheduled for Friday, May 28 in Cascade Locks and closing ceremonies on Sunday, June 6, in Hood River.

Highlighting the expansion will be several new events in Cascade Locks:

International Distance Triathlon

10-kilometer Road Race

The "Blow Down" downwind windsurfing race with a $1,500 purse

Kids Fun Run

In addition to the new events, an outdoor exposition will be held in the park in Cascade Locks. Local and regional vendors will offer arts, crafts, and a variety of food. There will also be a salmon bake and live music.

The venue will officially move to Hood River on Monday, May 31, for the conclusion of the "Blow Down" windsurfing competition from Cascade Locks to the Event Site in Hood River.

The seventh annual Columbia Gorge Marathon and fifth annual Gorge Half Marathon will again be the cornerstones of the GorgeFest's Hood River activities.

The second annual GorgeMan Half-Iron Triathlon will also run. Added to the events in Hood River will be a GorgeMan Iron Duathlon.

Hood River also will offer an outdoor expo, with live entertainment and other activities.

GorgeFest also is looking for volunteers. Contact Foreman for information at (971) 563-1671 or at
