Volleyball referees needed by start of 2003 season

Organizational meeting set for Monday, Aug. 25, in Goldendale

Referees are needed for 2003 high school and junior high volleyball matches around the Columbia Gorge region, from Stevenson to Bickleton.

According to Bill Daniels of the Columbia Gorge Volleyball Officials Association, referees are needed in particular to officiate matches in western Klickitat County.

"What I really need are people with flexible schedules or who are free during the day," especially in the afternoons, Daniels said.

Volleyball season starts in early September. Daniels is looking for a dozen, maybe 15, referees to assist this year. He said volleyball referees do not meet with great physical demands and there is no age limit.

And refereeing is more than a way to pass the time because officials get paid for their service, he noted.

Anyone interested in becoming a volleyball referee should attend an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, at Riverview Community Bank in Goldendale.
