Eagles, Cougars lose twice; Vandals drop league opener

Mabton dealt Klickitat its first setback of the season last Saturday, winning its Greater Columbia B League opener, 40-29, on its homecourt.

The Vandals (0-1, 3-1) mustered just 12 first-half points and trailed by 10 at halftime.

For the game, they shot just 24 percent (8 of 33) and committed 23 turnovers against an active Vikings defense.

Senior Kaeley Schultz went 4 for 4 from the foul line and led Klickitat with eight points.

Freshman Aryn Davis added seven points and took down a a team-leading seven rebounds.

Touchet 50, Lyle 34 (at Sunnyside) --

The Cougars kept the game close for one half, but couldn't hold off the Indians in the third quarter of last Saturday's non-league game.

"It was a game of spurts," said Cougars Coach Verlyn Smith. "We got behind early, but made a run to get within six at the half."

Touchet led, 27-21, at halftime, then broke the contest open by outscoring Lyle, 15-4, in the third period to take a 42-25 lead.

Its best player, 5-11 point guard Sadie Short, scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the pivotal third quarter to spark the Indians.

Senior Dawn Ullom led Lyle with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Joelle Jackson also had a solid game for the Cougars, tallying four points, two rebounds and two steals in extended playing time.

On Dec. 9, Lyle lost at Dufur, Ore., 60-30.

South Wasco County 53, at Glenwood 15 --

The Redsides took the Eagles' homecourt advantage away in the first quarter last Saturday, mounting a 13-0 lead in the opening eight minutes.

They went on to lead 28-2 at halftime en route to the non-league victory.

Senior Candi Kuhnhausen led Glenwood (2-3) with five points. Junior Kayleigh King and freshman Ashley Brasuell each had four points.

Klickitat 57, at Stevenson 23 --

Seniors Lyndsey Huwe and Danielle Curtis each scored 18 points to lead the Vandals to the non-league win last Friday.

Huwe got most of her points from 3-point range, sinking 4-of-12 from distance. She also claimed six steals and three assists. Curtis made 7 of 15 from the floor and collected nine boards and four steals.

Senior Kaeley Schultz added 14 points and nine rebounds, and freshman Aryn Davis collected a career-high 18 rebounds as Klickitat improved to 3-0 in December.

At Cascade Locks, Ore. 50, Glenwood 24 --

Their offense took off early for Christmas vacation as the Eagles lost last Friday for the second time this season.

Glenwood trailed, 26-14 at halftime and scored no more than nine points in any quarter of the non-league game.

Freshman Ashley Brasuell's 10 points topped the Eagles, who also got seven points from junior Kayleigh King.
