It's official. Unemployment benefits end

Official notification comes from US Labor

Washington's Extended Benefits program that provides assistance to laid-off workers who have exhausted other unemployment benefits will end Jan. 10, 2004.

Employment Security received official notification today from the U.S. Department of Labor indicating that the Extended Benefits program will end in Washington.

No claimants will receive Extended Benefits payments for weeks after Jan. 10, 2004, and an estimated 7,000 to 7,500 people now receiving Extended Benefits will not be eligible for further unemployment benefits.

Eligibility for Extended Benefits is tied to the state's unemployment rate.
