Contractor chosen for SR 14 project

Project awarded to KLB Construction Inc.

It took a while, but the city of Bingen finally has named a contractor for the State Route 14 repaving/streetscaping project.

KLB Construction Inc., which turned in the second-lowest bid, was chosen for the job. The Mukilteo-based contractor submitted an estimate of $4,569,513 to complete the project.

City officials said an award letter would be sent out to KLB no later than Feb. 24.

"This starts the clock," said Mayor Brian Prigel. "There is a 20-day window to get documents back for execution of the contract. Once the documents are signed, KLB will have 10 days to get started."

The low bidder, Tri-States Construction, was disqualified for the project due to an error in its bid package. Tri-States' bid was $4,399,120.

Prigel said he hopes KLB can begin working before the end of March at the latest.

"I'm excited to know it's definitely going to happen now," Prigel added.
