The Port of Klickitat is again gearing up to expand its Bingen Point facilities.
A 25,420 square foot "flex building" designed for light industrial manufacturing use is expected to be built in the open lot directly west of whether Building 1-C is located.
According to Port Executive Director Dianne Sherwood, the new facility will allow room for existing port tenants to expand. Construction is expected to begin by early May.
DSP Architecture of Vancouver is handling design and construction management for the project, which is budgeted at approximately $2.4 million.
"We're very happy about the expansion," Sherwood said. "We get a lot of leads [from businesses seeking sites] and we haven't had the space for a long time. I'm happy for the opportunity to bring expanding businesses here, and bring the employment here."
The project will be paid for via a combination of bonds, grants, and low interest loans. Included in the package is a $500,000 grant from Klickitat County.
