At approximately 4:34 p.m., on Tuesday, July 1, the Washington State Patrol along with units from the Rescue 7, Klickitat Valley Hospital ambulance and Washington State Department of Transportation, responded to a semi-truck rollover collision on SR 97 near milepost four.
Thomas Rupel, 57, Selah, was driving a 1999 Freightliner semi-tractor with box trailer southbound on SR 97. Strong winds caused the empty trailer to leave the roadway and the combination rolled over onto its right side striking the west side guardrail. The truck and trailer came to rest on its right side blocking the southbound lane of traffic on SR 97.
Rupel was not injured in the collision and had been wearing his seatbelt.
The collision caused the southbound lane of SR 97 to be closed for approximately two hours.
Marlene G. Thompson, 45, Goldendale, was not injured on July 1, 2003, when her 1993 Dodge Caravan hit a cow in the roadway on SR 97 near Three Creeks Lodge.
Thompson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The Dodge Caravan was totaled.
