Become a stream steward

Organizational meeting set for Aug. 7 in Klickitat

Are you interested in learning more about the Klickitat River and streams in the area from science experts? Would you be interested in volunteering to enhance local waterways and salmon habitat?

Attend a kickoff meeting for a new volunteer program starting up in Klickitat County called Stream Stewards.

The first meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Union Hall in Klickitat.

The initial meeting will introduce the program and sponsoring organizations -- Mid-Columbia Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Dinner will be provided by the Ladies Auxiliary in Klickitat.

Future meetings, also held in Klickitat, will include a storm-drain stenciling project, getting involved with "Students for Salmon" restoration project and an actual re-vegetation project on Snyder Creek.
