Report for Skamania County Sheriff

On Thursday, June 12, Sheriff Brad Lohrey of Sherman County requested the Skamania County Dive Team to respond to a possible drowning.

At approximately 10 a.m., divers in 19 feet of water, recovered a body of an adult male. The drowning occurred in an old gravel pit in Rufus. The gravel pit is a tributary off the Columbia River.

Anyone with information concerning this matter should contact the Sherman County Sheriff's Office, (541) 565-3622.

Later that same afternoon, Skamania County divers recovered the body of Lauren Orton in the upper Wind River. Orton was pinned in a waterfall upstream from the High Bridge.

The water level has lowered approximately 14 inches since the accident that took her life on April 27, allowing divers to access the body.
