On May 13, 2003, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the Washington State Patrol and Klickitat Valley Hospital Ambulance and Rescue personnel responded to a report of a motorcycle vs. vehicle injury collision on State Route 97 at milepost 15 just north of Goldendale.
Lee Eikanas, 51, Dallesport, was operating his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on SR 97. Justin Hill, 25, Goldendale, was also driving northbound on SR 97 in a 1994 Ford F250 pickup pulling a horse trailer. Traveling in-between the motorcycle and the pickup/trailer was a semi-truck and trailer also traveling northbound.
At the time of the crash, the pickup with horse trailer was attempting to turn left (west) into a parking lot. The motorcycle had attempted to pass the semi-truck on the left side and then collided with the left rear side of the horse trailer. Prior to the collision, the motorcycle had braked and skidded for approximately 150 feet in the southbound lane of travel prior to impacting the horse trailer.
Eikanas was transported by ambulance to Klickitat Valley Hospital and then Life Flighted to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.
Eikanas is employed as a high school teacher with the Goldendale School District.
The collision is under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
The WSP is requesting the public's assistance in the investigation of a fatality collision that occurred on May 13, 2003, at approximately 2:05 p.m. on SR 14 at NE 32nd street in Washougal.
A Ford pickup and a Triumph motorcycle collided in the intersection and the driver of the motorcycle died as the result of his injuries.
