Two California residents were injured Monday evening at approximately 6 p.m. when they were involved in a two-vehicle accident on State Route 97 at milepost 1.
According to the report, a 1985 Toyota van driven by James R. Johnson, 44, Clayton, Calif., was southbound on SR 97. A 1989 Chevy Blazer, driven by Douglas R. Eyle, 47, Harrah, was northbound on SR 97. The Johnson vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane, striking the guardrail on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle then came back into the northbound lanes and struck the Blazer. Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lanes. Johnson was charged with DUI.
Johnson was transported to Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles. A passenger in his vehicle -- Kimberly Rouse, 40, Clayton, Calif., was also transported to Mid Columbia Medical Center. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Eyle was not injured in the accident. It was unknown whether Johnson or Eyle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
