Home-court victories over Hockinson and Ilwaco last week pushed the Columbia High junior varsity volleyball team's record over the .500 mark for the second time this season.
The Junior Bruins (4-3) took two of three from the Hawklings last Thursday, winning the first two sets, 25-15, 25-12 before dropping the third, 16-14.
Columbia did it with solid serving (51/61, 84 percent), hitting (29/31, 94 percent) and defense (19/26 digs, 73 percent).
Dani Gilderhus and Jenny Pulido had perfect serving marks, going 6 for 6 and 5 for 5, respectively. Michele Shrum went 11 for 12 from the stripe, and Kara Woosley was 9 for 10.
Ashley Poole led CHS hitters, connecting 6 of 7 times. Katie Rieper was 5 for 5, while Woosley and Gilderhus were 4 for 4 each.
Mara Hathaway recorded 5 digs, and Brooke Hathaway and Shrum each got credit for 3 saves.
The Junior Bruins ran their winning streak to two with 25-8, 25-10, 15-6 victories over Ilwaco last Saturday.
They went 51 for 60 (85 percent) from the service line, completed 19-of-23 attacks (83 percent) and came up with 9 digs in 9 tries.
Top servers included Gilderhus (8/8), Rieper (11/12), Ashley Neff (9/10) and Erin McCutcheon (8/9).
Gilderhus (5/5) and Neff (6/8) paced CHS hitters. Defensively, Neff dug out three Ilwaco shots in three chances.
