State political party conventions are Saturday

County meetings planned for Goldendale

Delegates and alternates elected from precinct caucuses in Klickitat and Skamania counties will convene Saturday, April 24, at 9 a.m. for their respective Democratic Conventions. The Klickitat County site is the Goldendale Middle School, while Democrats from Skamania County will meet at the Rock Creek Center. The official order of business for each will be to elect presidential candidate delegates and alternates to the state and congressional district conventions and approve the county platform.

"Klickitat County Democrats are energized and excited about this year's convention," said Klickitat Democratic Chair Chris Connolly. "Momentum is building toward the November elections and the response we've had is tremendous."

Almost 23,000 delegates and an equal number of alternates will participate in this Saturday's Democratic Party conventions across the state.

The Republican Party also holds its county conventions on Saturday. Klickitat County Republicans will meet at the Klickitat Public Utility District building's meeting room in Goldendale, beginning at noon.

"Delegates or their alternates will formulate the platform for Klickitat County that will be taken to the state convention," read a statement from the leadership of the county's Republican Party.

In addition, several of the Republican Party's candidates for state and local offices are expected to address the Saturday convention.
